About Omicronmu

The Omicron Mu Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. began as a vision in 1979 at Weber State College (now Weber State University) in Ogden, Utah. At a time when no national Black Greek organizations existed in the state, Brother Lawrence Livingston set out to establish a chapter grounded in dedication, leadership, and service.

Through perseverance and commitment, a small group of determined men built a foundation that would make history. On August 14, 1983, at the Grand Conclave in Kansas City, Missouri, Omicron Mu Chapter was officially chartered—becoming the first chapter of any national Black fraternity or sorority established in the state of Utah. Although the chapter later became inactive in 1985, its legacy of leadership and community uplift endured.

More than three decades later, that legacy was reignited. Recognizing the need for a strong Omega presence in California’s San Fernando Valley, a dedicated group of brothers united to restore Omicron Mu as a graduate chapter. On December 8, 2017, the chapter was rechartered with a renewed commitment to service, social action, and mentorship.

Since its reactivation, Omicron Mu Chapter has proudly served the San Fernando Valley through impactful community programs, outreach initiatives, and leadership efforts aimed at uplifting and empowering the communities it represents.
